Match the work to your home
A key that is hard to turn, a newly purchased house and a lost set of keys do not always need the same solution. Tell us about the door, the lock and the result you want. We can discuss whether the request concerns access, changing which keys work, repairing hardware or installing a different lock.
Rekey or replace?
Rekeying changes which key operates a compatible lock while keeping the main hardware. Replacement changes the hardware itself. A damaged lock, a worn mechanism, incompatible cylinders or a desired upgrade may call for replacement. The condition and compatibility of the actual lock matter more than a general rule.
Door condition matters too
A lock can appear faulty when the door is sagging, the strike is misaligned or the frame changes with temperature and moisture. Describe rubbing, sticking or a latch that only works when you lift the door. Avoid forcing a key or repeatedly slamming a door that will not latch.
Before a mobile visit
Have access to the relevant doors and confirm permission to authorize the work. For a rental property, discuss authorization with the property owner or manager. Tell us how many locks are involved and whether you want them to work with the same key.
